Last night we opened our studio for the community to come through and get creative. Our purpose-driven goal of removing the barriers people face when starting their journey into music and media became a reality during our first open studio session.

Travelling by train from Derby to Barnsley, a young aspiring artist by the name of Tj came to the open studio event rightfully nervous and unsure of what to expect.

After talking about his music, performing some of his work and settling into the studio environment, Tj quickly jumped to snatch the opportunity of engineering for our other guest.
Our studio engineer talked Tj through preparing the equipment and setting up the software to be ready to track vocals. Tj naturally fell into his role and did an amazing job recording and encouraging the performing artist between takes.

We were also joined by 16-year-old YS from Hull, who we have directly worked with previously. He came prepared with lyrics describing growing up in environments with little opportunity, street life, and personal struggles over hard-hitting UK drill instrumentals.

Collaborating together, Tj and YS took turns recording each other’s vocals, resulting in them both featuring on the same track. Once our open studio session came to an end, both Tj and YS left feeling supported, inspired, and ready to create more music, which is exactly the result we aimed to achieve.
Well done lads!
