Diamond Bevell

Interview with Pitz

PITZ – Could you take a moment to introduce yourself?

Diamond Bevell –

My name is Diamond Bevell—a spoken word artist, poet, and composer. Through my work, I help people feel seen and understood by sharing life’s experiences through music, spoken word, and poetry.

My intention is for those who read or hear my pieces to experience life from a perspective that encourages a lighter, more empowered outlook.

PITZ – What initially sparked your passion for spoken word and poetry?

Diamond Bevell –

The spark behind my passion for spoken word and poetry comes from navigating life’s ups and downs. Life itself is my greatest influence, shaping my work as I explore periods of transition—some of them overwhelming.

Spoken word and poetry became my outlet during difficult times, especially when I was alone, in solitude, or unable to express myself through music.

This form of expression gives me both relief and perspective. For some, it softens the emotional weight of certain topics; for others, it offers new ways to navigate life.

PITZ – At the end of a lot of your performances you state your name, the current time, date, and location. Why is this?

Diamond Bevell –

A mentor introduced me to this practice, and it naturally became part of my performances. I now see each performance as a piece within the library of my creations—a lasting legacy that remains even after my physical presence is gone.

PITZ – Have there been obstacles in your creative journey? If so, what have they taught you?

Diamond Bevell –

Some obstacles I’ve faced include balancing life as a family man, a professional, and a creative; the inability to perform in physical venues during COVID-19; and technical challenges during events

These experiences have taught me resilience, flexibility, professionalism, strong planning, and how to develop a tougher skin.

PITZ – You recently moved from London to Barnsley. Has this change affected your creativity? Have you seen any cultural or creative differences between the North and South?

Diamond Bevell –

Moving from London to Barnsley gave me the time to reflect and embrace my creativity in a way that feels more natural and present.

Leaving the South meant stepping away from two decades of community engagement in spoken word and poetry—including performing, hosting, and sound engineering at events like Music and Words Club and online platforms such as Poets Corner Online.

It’s still early in my chapter in the North, but I’ve already found a similar warmth and safe spaces that nurture creative talent, fostering collaboration and growth.

PITZ – What is next for Diamond Bevell and where can people find your work?

Diamond Bevell –

I’m excited to explore creative opportunities in the North, including upcoming performances, new projects, and collaborations.
