PITZ – Who is Su Naves?
Su Naves –
I haven’t always been Su Naves.
Su Naves is the finished product from a lot of personal growth. I was forged from years of childhood trauma and dark experiences, into a person who strives to support others and live in the light.
Growing up I moved around a lot, passed from person to person. This meant attending 9 different schools and having to make and lose friendships 9 different times. This shaped me into someone who is a social butterfly, as I had to be, but also someone who had to walk alone.
PITZ – How would you describe your style of music?
Su Naves –
Music has always been a comfort for me. Old songs were one of the few constants, in a World that was unpredictable and ever changing. I have never tried to tie myself down to one genre, as I see beauty in all styles.
I see the mainstream as a platform to work from, to bring a different point of view to the masses. I want to bring the change and be the change in music.

PITZ – What is music to you?
Su Naves –
My mum died when I was 7. One thing that keeps her memory alive is our shared love of music. She would sing to me, something that is printed vividly in my memory. Singing is my link to the other side and I feel her with me when I’m writing.
Music was the one thing that no-one could take from me, when I had nothing else I still had my voice.

PITZ – How has your journey progressed and where do you see it taking you?
Su Naves –
Mental health has played a big part in my journey. When all else has failed, I have turned to writing and music. Over the years I have written literally hundreds of songs, and spend countless hours working on my vocals, only to burn the pages and start again.
Failing is a part of progression and I have failed countless times, only to rise again stronger, with better and more meaningful lyrics. I used to create for myself and to help me work through my own demons.
Now I have created music based upon my life experiences, but have made it accessible and relatable for others.

PITZ – You are working on your first official EP. Can you tell us more about that?
Su Naves –
It’s been a long time coming, but it is finally time. Tracks that I am confident to put my name behind and show to the World. To say this is Su Naves, come get some.
The album is called Avatar. I have named it this because life has forced me to be many people, making it difficult for me to remember who I truly am. I became an avatar of myself, to please people, to fit in and to conform to what people expected me to be. This album is me stepping out and shaking off those chains.

PITZ – What have you struggled with the most in your creative work?
Su Naves –
I am my own worst critic and have become a bit of a perfectionist. I want my music to represent real life and to not feel manufactured. I do not see the point in making music for the sake of making music, and each word in each song is crafted out of emotion and feeling, rather than necessity to follow a rhyming scheme.
As a result a song idea may come to me in seconds, but take weeks to perfect.

PITZ – Of all your creative works, which would you consider to be your favourite to date?
Su Naves –
I enjoy most creative art forms. As well as singing I love to move and dance and write skits. However, I feel that my favourite creative works is surviving. I get up every day and exist when there have been times when the World has willed me not to.
Personal fitness, both physically and mentally has become the driving factor in keeping me sane and moving forwards.

PITZ – What goals do you hope to achieve through music?
Su Naves –
I want to work with ordinary people, helping them to find their voice. I did not feel listened to as a child or young man and believe that this is the shared experience for many.
I hope that I can use any platform that I gain, to raise others up to join me. Due to the life I have lead, I feel that I have an innovative mind that can see issues that the typical people in power miss.
Success in music will give me the chance to invest into communities and be the change I want to see.

PITZ – What is your message to the people reading this interview?
Su Naves –
Wearing your heart on your sleeve is not a weakness, it is a blessing. Use your passion as your armour and walk into every day as yourself.
